Message if you're going to use the superior optics argument, the canon kit lens that comes with the rebels is cheaply made. It suffers from problems among;
soft focus
vignetting
distortion

while the last one is sorta inherent in any wide angle lens ... its especially prevelant in the kit lens. (pick up PTlens for photoshop, this will correct it to a point)

Sure i'd love to recommend you get a 17-40L or 16-35L ... but I know most people dont want to blow $700-$1500 on a lens.

If you really want to know, I'll spend some time tonight and see what I can dig up... i havent done much research on non L lenses so I'm rusty.

The kit lens is cheap and it'll get the job done .. but its not w/o its problems.
